Vexmen Open House September 8th and 9th

We will be having information nights Tuesday September 8th and Wednesday September 9th at the Marsh Creek 6th Grade Center. This is our regular meeting place and you can choose to come either Tuesday or Wednesday evening – preferably a night you can commit to for the season.

The Vexmen meet from August through early March on either a Tuesday or Wednesday evening depending upon your team’s build night. A team is made up of 4 to 5 roboteers that are responsible for the design, construction and driving of their robot. The roboteers learn programming, building and team work. We compete in 4-5 events each season on Saturdays in January and February culminating in Vex PA State Championships in early March. We are a very active robotics club and hope you can join us.

Costs are $375 per roboteer plus the cost of a shirt which will be $25 this year. We are a completely parent run organization and require your help. Every team of 4-5 roboteers needs at least two parent mentors. We will teach you what is needed so don’t worry if you don’t have experience corralling kids or working with tools.

Each year the all VEX robotics teams compete in a new game challenge designed by Vex. This year’s game is called Nothing But Net. You can see the video below describing all the rules of the game, including how to score, and what you can and can’t have your robot do. Also detailed in the video, are the measurements and layouts of the playing field.

You and your team will build a robot within the required constraints to compete in the above challenge. Robots are made up of the drive train, the shooter and the ball scooper mechanism. You will learn how to build these components along with how to program and drive your robot (that’s the fun part). You can form your own team (no more than 5 students) or we will find you a home, don’t worry. .
