1/9/16 - 8:30AM - 4PM - Vex VRC Downingtown Open, Downingtown, PA
This was the first event of the year hosted by the Vexmen and it was huge. The event went well and all three event divisions went smoothly. The Vexmen did well in both the high school and middle school divisions with eight new PA State qualifying teams. We even had a college skills tournament to show us how well college superstar teams like Bots N Stuff can do with two robots designed specifically to work in conjunction to maximize their scores.

For the first event of the year and for some their first event ever, the scores were much higher than expected. Great job to all.

1/30/16 - 9AM - 4PM - Everyone at DC Knights, Newtown Square, PA
We have three divisions at DC Knights to most of our Vexmen teams! Vex IQ, VRC middle school, and VRC High School!
We got the middle school division expanded so we can all come compete now!

The Vexmen came home with a nice haul of awards from DC Knights and saw more of the middle school teams from the area. The high school teams saw different faces than normal as new entrants to Vex made their way to the field with some very capable robots. Competition was fierce but fun.

2/13/16 - 9:00AM - 4PM - Vex VRC at Norristown, PA
Norristown event where all VRC teams will be playing (IQ will be in Quakertown on this day)

A great day for the Vexmen at Norristown. We had several award winners and very competitive teams in both the middle school and high school divisions. The tournament finals both had underdogs taking the championship. In middle school the fifth seed alliance with 80X took the day from 80F and 80J’s alliance. While int he high school division, the fourth seed alliance of 81M and 91C beat the first seed alliance in the semi-final rounds only to lose to the second seed alliance in the finals. Scouting is important!

Three more teams qualified for PA States at Norristown (80F, 80S, and 81P) making only three Vexmen teams left to qualify. One more middle school and two more high school events are left to get your team in.

3/12/16 - 9AM - 4PM - VRC & IQ PA State Championships, The Haverford School, Haverford, PA
PA State Championships
We did an amazing thing by qualifying all 34 Vexmen teams into PA State Championships. There is not another club in the US I could find that qualified nearly so many teams into their state qualifiers. Many smaller clubs qualify their teams but hard pressed to find more than 5 or 6 from a single organization at their states.

We qualified three teams to move on to World Championships! Team 80W Warpath won the tournament with 16X and team 80M won the Excellence Award in the Middle School division. Team 92P Phoenix won the Design Award in the IQ event to move on to World championships in Kentucky.

The State Championships is an “earn your way in” championship. The top spots from the each of the events within the state qualify teams to states along with the top skills scores in the state. The Vexmen came away with twenty total awards from the event. Congratulations to all our teams!

4/7/16 - 4/9/16: Create US Open Robotics Championship, Omaha, NE
Create_logo
For the second year running, the Vexmen sent teams to the US Open in Omaha! Four middle school teams and one high school team made the trek to Nebraska to compete against some of the toughest opponents around. It gives a great opportunity for teams to travel and see other parts of the country and show their Vexmen pride!

Team 80J Cannonball of the Vexmen took home the “Think Award” at the 2016 CREATE U.S. Open held at the Mid-America Center in Council Bluffs, Iowa. Team 81Z Professor X competed in a bonus Mega Team Challenge and took home second place.

Team 80J Cannonball performed extremely well overall placing 7th out of 89 teams in the qualifying rounds and 7th in autonomous robot skills against middle schools from more than twenty states. The “Think Award” is presented to a team that has successfully utilized autonomous programming modes during competition. Quality, consistency and success of autonomous programs as well as the ability of the students to explain the programming process help to determine the winner of this award. Cannonball was honored by receiving one of only four judged awards at the middle school level.
All five students from team 80J Cannonball attend Downingtown Area School District’s Marsh Creek 6th Grade Center.

Team 81Z Professor X participated in a Mega Challenge in addition to the regular Vex competition. This task was to form an alliance with newly met teams and perform in a shooting gallery with your robot (that id designed for a completely different game). They shot down plastic cups from a distance of twenty two feet away where the cups were arranged on two levels of a target three feet apart.

This post season event is earned by winning a local tournament.
