Let’s Get Ready To Robot!

It’s time for a new year and the Vexmen are looking for some new roboteers. We will be looking for new members at the 6th grade open house nights and then on the following Tuesday and Wednesday evenings to start the build year. We will form teams for everyone and go over this year’s game – Skyrise.
This year is going to be a challenge as it has really high posts to score from and a more challenging pick and place challenge in the Skyrise tower. Posts along the outside of the field are worth two points and the highest cube placed on a post gets a bonus point. Cubes on the colored squares…

Vexmen 2014 Spring Classes Progress Report

It’s halfway through the Vexmen spring classes and it’s time to show off some progress.
The Wednesday class is focused on line following and developing more skills in programming your robot. Nine teams are participating in this particular class. We’ve gone over background tasks to keep track of your sensors and logging values to the debug stream for graphing and visualization of what is really happening on your robot. We learned what makes a gyro work and how we can use the gyro to tell if we’re outside the bounds of the line. (If Vex did not run out of gyros we’d be putting them on all the robots now. Instead we will try to incorporate Arduino…

Vexmen Spring Sessions – Now Two Options

This year the Vexmen will be offering two spring sessions to enhance our skills and techniques.
The first class will be on Tuesday evenings and will be like last year’s spring class focusing on building techniques, torque, gear ratios, and the basics of programming sensors. This class is geared towards roboteers who have an understanding of Vex parts, and how to hook things up but not necessarily the why things work like they do.
The second class will be on Wednesday evenings and is going to explore using line followers and programming techniques to use them wisely and in conjunction with other sensors. We will have a line following maze course that gets progressively harder as you go through…

Vexmen Parts Ordering Process

Well it is another build season and we all seem to not have the parts we need when we need them. Please look through the parts bins and ensure we do not already have the part you are looking for. We do have quite a few items in stock.
However we will not always have what you are looking for in the parts bins. We will need to order those parts for you, and here is where we need your help the most. Please look up the parts at Vex website and [strong]reference the part number to make ordering easier[/strong] and ensuring we order the correct parts. Some items have similar names! Filled out spreadsheets…

Watch Our Vexmen Promotional Video

Students wonder if they would like robotics. Vexmen roboteers answer the question “How do you get started in robotics?” This video helps explain the Vexmen and how we build and learn about robots in a competitive game. The real answer is simply this – just try it!

His team, Gambit, won the 2011 Think Award at the Vex World Championships in Orlando, FL for their outstanding programming and they have participated in the 2010, 2011, and 2012 World Championships as well. Last year, the Vexmen won several awards at…
